RedHawks Advance to Finals of Match Play

DADE CITY, Fla. – The Miami University golf team won both of its matches during day one of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play Tournament. Miami won their first-round match against seventh-seed Drake by means of a tiebreaker. Then, the RedHawks went on to defeat Ball State 4-2 in the semifinals and advance to the finals. They will face Bowling Green who knocked off top-seed Eastern Michigan 4-2 in their semifinal match.

In round one, redshirt senior Brian Ohr defeated Tommi Avant 2&1, and junior Cam Solomon picked up a win over Kyle MacDonald 3&1. Freshman Jack Ebner won in dominating fashion over Arjun Reddy 6&5. Sophomore Charlie Nikitas and junior Jack Katarincic both dropped the last hole of their match to lose by one. Drake's Lucas Scherf defeated sophomore Jack Mortell in a close match 2&1.

Later in the day, Ebner continued his success against Ball State's Joey Ranieri with a 4&3 win. Mortell battled back from a first round loss to beat Jack Cunningham 3&1. Charlie Nikitas was all-square with Keegan Bronnenberg for most of the second round but won the last hole to secure a 1-Up win. Both Ohr and Katarincic finished all-square in their second match of the day while Solomon ended up losing his match by one.

Miami will take on Bowling Green Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live stats will be available courtesy of GolfStat here.
