
Cincinnati Offense Takes Over in RedHawks’ 98-68 Loss

Miami allowed 98 points for the second time this season.
CINCINNATI – The Miami University women's basketball team (4-5) fell to Cincinnati by a 68-98 margin on Sunday, tying for the most points allowed this season.
Lauren Dickerson and Peyton Scott each had 13 points to lead Miami's offense. Savannah Kluesner and Kelly McLaughlin also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Kenzie Schmitz led the 'Hawks with six rebounds.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead just two minutes into the game before the RedHawks could get on the scoreboard. Scott had Miami's first two baskets before a three from Dickerson cut UC's lead to 11-7 after four minutes of play.
After the three from Dickerson, Cincinnati went on an 8-0 run to increase its lead to 19-7 with 2:21 to play in the first quarter. Miami responded with a 9-2 run to cut UC's lead to five points before a buzzer beater ended the first quarter with the Bearcats up 23-16.
Cincinnati began the second quarter with a 9-0 run, holding Miami off the board for almost four minutes before a jumper from Kelly McLaughlin ended the drought. With 5:45 to play in the first half, UC held a 34-18 lead.
Eleven-straight points by the RedHawks cut the Bearcats' lead down to five points with 3:33 remaining in the first half. Scott reached double figures with a three-pointer during this run while Monique Esbrand had two from long range.
Cincinnati responded and took a 42-31 lead into the locker room.
The Bearcats opened the second half with a 9-2 run to increase their lead to 51-33 in the first three minutes. Miami responded with back-to-back baskets from Tihanna Fulton and Alexis Straw but Cincinnati had the answer with six-straight points.
The RedHawks defense held Cincinnati without a basket for the next three minutes but Bearcats' free throws kept the scoring even during that time. The Bearcats had a 66-45 advantage going into the final quarter of play.
The teams traded baskets for the first few minutes of the quarter before UC strung together a trio of shots to add to its lead. Kluesner scored nine of her points in the final six minutes of play while Dickerson scored eight of her points during that time. A three-pointer by Cincinnati at the buzzer capped scoring.
Miami is on the road Tuesday, Dec. 17. The RedHawks play at Pittsburgh at 6:30 p.m.
