
Miami Holds Off Pittsburgh On Road

The RedHawks were led by Peyton Scott, who scored a career-high 24 points.
PITTSBURGH – The Miami University women's basketball team (5-5) held off a second-half push from Pittsburgh to win by an 80-71 margin.
Peyton Scott led the Miami offense with a career-high 24 points and her first collegiate 20-point game. Savannah Kluesner registered her fifth double-double of the season (16 points, 10 rebounds) while Lauren Dickerson and Monique Esbrand also scored in double figures.
Pittsburgh scored first but Miami answered as the teams tied at two and four before Dickerson gave the RedHawks their first lead of the game with a three-pointer four minutes in.

The Panthers took a 10-9 lead before three-straight Miami baskets gave the Red and White a 16-10 lead with two minutes to play in the opening quarter, the most by either team at that time. Pittsburgh answered with a pair of baskets before Dickerson sunk her second from behind the arc to give Miami a 19-14 lead after 10 minutes of play. There were two ties and five lead changes in the first quarter.
The RedHawks scored the first 10 points of the second quarter, holding Pittsburgh without a basket for the first six minutes of the quarter. During the 10-0 run, Bree Paulson and Scott both sank three-pointers.

Miami would outscore Pittsburgh 18-5 during the second quarter as the Panthers scored their lone three-point shot a couple of minutes before halftime. The RedHawks held a 37-19 lead going into the locker room.
Scott opened the second half with her second three-pointer of the game.

Following Scott's three-point shot, Pittsburgh went on a 9-0 run to cut the RedHawks' lead to 40-28 two minutes into the half. Kluesner responded with a basket to become the first player in the game to hit double figures.
After Kluesner's basket, the Panthers went on a 13-4 run to trim Miami's lead down to five points with three minutes to play in the third quarter. Scott scored the RedHawks' final seven points of the quarter to bring her third-quarter total to 10 points.

Miami had a 53-42 lead going into the final quarter of play.
The first five baskets from the Panthers in the fourth quarter with made from behind the arc after only having one three-pointer the entire first half. Those three-pointers cut Miami's lead down to 61-57 with 6:35 remaining.
The RedHawks responded with a 13-6 run over the next five minutes to bump their lead back up to double digits with less than two minutes to play. This run included three-pointers from Esbrand and Dickerson.
Pittsburgh scored six-straight points as Miami clung to a 74-69 lead with 48 seconds left. Scott made her free throws down the stretch and Esbrand capped scoring with a layup to put her in double figures.
Miami hosts Evansville on Sunday inside Millett Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
