LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Miami University men's basketball team travels to No. 3/5 Louisville on Wednesday for a national TV showdown against the Cardinals. The tip time is at 8:30 p.m. and it will air live on the ACC Network. An audio broadcast will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.
REDHAWKS AGAINST RANKED TEAMS: This is the first time Miami will face a ranked team since it took on No. 21/23 Buffalo last season on March 1. In that contest the RedHawks fell behind 18-0 in the first four and a half minutes, but worked their way back to within three at 70-67 with 2:31 to go before eventually falling, 77-69. The last time the RedHawks beat a ranked team is when they took down No. 11/10 Boston College, 73-67, at the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii on Dec. 20, 2001. A late 5-0 run by Alex Shorts broke a 65-65 tie, and Miami Hall-of-Famer Chet Mason hit his free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
OVERCOMING INJURIES: The RedHawks were able to overcome an injury to leading scorer
Nike Sibande (who is day-to-day) on the first play of the game to defeat Mississippi Valley State, 79-67, in their last game on Sunday. Overcoming injuries has been a constant theme, with starting forward
Bam Bowman missing three games earlier this year, while several others have played limited minutes due to injury concerns. It has allowed other players to step up, like sophomore forward
Josh Brewer, who had 12 points in 14 minutes against the Delta Devils. He is now averaging 5.0 points per game in nine appearances this season.
ABOUT LOUISVILLE: The Cardinals are ranked third in the latest AP Poll and fifth in the coaches poll. They were the number one team in the nation last week until they lost their first game of the season, 70-57, to Texas Tech at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 10. They rebounded with a 99-67 victory over Eastern Kentucky in their last action on Saturday to improve to 10-1. Louisville has been led by junior forward Jordan Nwora. He is averaging 21.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The Cardinals are also earning their wins with a suffocating defense. They are giving up only 59.5 points per game.
THE SERIES WITH LOUISVILLE: The Cardinals have won all four meetings all-time with the RedHawks. The teams last met on Nov. 18, 2012 in Louisville. The Cardinals held Miami to 29.8 percent shooting for the game as they went on to win, 80-39.
MIAMI VS. ACC: One of the Power Five Conferences, the Atlantic Coast Conference consists of 15 schools that are all over the eastern half of the United States. Among its schools the league has 15 total National Championships, tied with the PAC-12 for most all-time. Miami is 23-28 all-time against the current members of the ACC. In addition to their 0-4 record against Louisville, the RedHawks are 1-1 vs. Boston College, 0-1 vs. Clemson, 0-1 vs. Duke, 1-0 vs. Florida State, 4-5 vs. Miami (FL), 1-3 vs. North Carolina, 0-1 vs. North Carolina State, 4-5 vs. Notre Dame, 10-3 vs. Pittsburgh, 1-1 vs. Syracuse, 0-1 vs. Virginia and 1-2 vs. Virginia Tech. Miami has never faced Georgia Tech or Wake Forest.
UP AHEAD: The RedHawks returns home for their final game before the holiday break. Miami will host Bradley on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will air live on ESPN+. An audio broadcast will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.
