Miami’s Three-Point Shooting Seals Win Against MVSU

The RedHawks made eight three-pointers in the first half en route to a 79-67 win inside Millett Hall.
OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University men's basketball team (5-5) used its three-point shooting to lift the RedHawks to a 79-67 win against Mississippi Valley State on Sunday inside Millett Hall. Four Miami players reached double figures.
Bam Bowman led Miami's offense with the third 20-point game of his Miami career. Dalonte Brown put together his eighth game of the season scoring in double figures, scoring 14 first-half points, and recording his third double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Josh Brewer and Dae Dae Grant also reached double figures, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.
As a team, the RedHawks made eight three-point shots during the first half, compared to the Delta Devils four from long range. Miami's eight three-pointers came from six different players.
The teams traded baskets as there were three lead changes and three ties within the first six minutes of the game. The RedHawks and Delta Devils were knotted at 10 apiece with 14:48 to play in the first half.
Over the next three minutes of play, Miami put together an 11-0 run, including a trio of three-pointers from three different players. The run gave the RedHawks a 21-10 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the half.
Miami held a 10-point lead (25-15) midway through the first half as Josh Brewer tipped in a missed shot for his first points of the game.
Mississippi Valley State responded with a 9-2 run to cut Miami's lead down to three with 7:27 to play in the first half. Brown responded with a jumper to increase the RedHawks' lead to 29-24 and become the first player in the game to reach double figures.
Miami held a 37-29 lead at the media timeout with just under four minutes remaining in the first half. Isaiah Coleman-Lands scored six points in the final two minutes of the half as the RedHawks went into the locker room with a 46-37 lead.
The Delta Devils came out of the locker room with a pair of quick baskets as the RedHawks called a timeout less than a minute into the second half as their lead was trimmed to five points. Out of the timeout, Brewer scored six-straight points on the floor, including a dunk, to boost Miami's lead to 52-41 with 17:38 remaining, forcing a MVSU timeout. Brewer reached double figures with the dunk.
Brewer and Dae Dae Grant both reached double figures before the next media timeout as Miami held a 58-48 lead with 11:13 remaining.
The Delta Devils' defense slowed the RedHawks down as Miami scored just one basket before the next media timeout as the Red and White held a 60-55 lead with 7:16 to play. Miami's lead was cut all the way down to three points as MVSU scored nine-straight on the floor before Bowman ended the RedHawks' scoring drought.
Bowman was the fourth RedHawk to reach double figures, doing so for the second time this season with less than five minutes remaining in the contest. Another layup by Bowman sent the game into a media timeout with 3:38 to play and a 69-60 lead for the Red and White.
Miami forces a Mississippi Valley State timeout with 2:24 to play as the RedHawks put together a 10-0 run to take a commanding 77-60 lead. Eight of these 10 points came from Bowman.
Bowman reached the 20-point plateau for the first time this season and the third time in his career with less than two minutes to play as Miami held the 79-60 advantage.
MVSU scored the final seven points of the game as scoring was capped at 79-67.
The RedHawks travel to Louisville on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
