OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball opens the 2018-19 season at home as it welcomes Wright State to Millett Hall. Tip time is at 2 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN3. An audio broadcast will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.

MIAMI IN OPENERS: This begins the 115th season of men's basketball at Miami. The RedHawks have been very successful in season openers, sporting a 75-39 (.659) record in the first 114. Last season, Miami fell at Butler, 90-68, in a nationally televised opener. In home openers, the RedHawks are 92-22 (.807) all-time. Last year, they defeated Midway, 91-42, in their first game of the season at Millett Hall. This is the first time that Miami is opening the season at home since they defeated Muskingum, 84-57 in 2017. The last time the 'Hawks opened the season at home against a Division I school was in 2015 when they defeated Southern Utah, 76-63.

HONORING JACKSON: In 2017, the Miami University men's basketball team worked with the Friends of Jaclyn program when it adopted Jackson Hogenkamp onto the team. Over the next two seasons Jackson, who was battling osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, built a relationship with several of the players and staff on the team. He attended several Miami games and even went with his family to the Bahamas when the RedHawks competed in the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase in 2018. He touched everyone with his amazing spirit and continuously positive attitude. Unfortunately on April 5 of this year, Jackson passed away at the age of 16. With his parents Scott and Shelly Hogenkamp, along with his siblings Garrett, Rachel, Carter and Alayna and many other friends and family in attendance, Miami will be honoring his memory throughout the game. The team will also wear gold laces to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.

ABOUT WRIGHT STATE: The Raiders won their season opener, 96-77, over Division II opponent Central State on Tuesday. They were picked to win the Horizon League this season after going 21-14 and winning the Horizon League regular season title with a 13-5 record a season ago. Wright State returns eight letterwinners from that squad, led by junior center Loudon Love. He averaged 15.1 points and 8.2 rebounds last season. Another key player back is senior forward Bill Wampler. He averaged 15.0 points per game.

THE SERIES WITH WRIGHT STATE: Miami holds a 21-13 lead in the all-time series with Wright State. The RedHawks have won two straight against the Raiders, including a dramatic, 65-62, win last season on Dec. 5, 2018 in Dayton. Miami jumped to a 12-point lead early before Wright State took the advantage back in the second half. After going back-and-forth in a physical battle, the Raiders tied the score at 62 with 6.3 seconds to go. After Darrian Ringo went the length of the court he found Isaiah Coleman-Lands on the right side of the key just behind the arc. He drained the triple at the buzzer to secure the victory. Bam Bowman led Miami with 18 points in the contest.

MIAMI VS. HORIZON LEAGUE: The Horizon League is made up of 10 schools in the same geographical footprint as the MAC. Miami has had pretty good success against these schools. All-time, the RedHawks are 38-20 all-time against the current members of the Horizon League. In addition to its 21-13 record against Wright State, Miami is 0-2 vs. Northern Kentucky, 5-0 vs. Cleveland State, 2-0 vs. UIC, 4-1 vs. IUPUI, 2-0 vs. Oakland, 2-1 vs. Milwaukee and 2-3 vs. Green Bay. The RedHawks have never played Detroit Mercy or Youngstown State.

UP AHEAD: The RedHawks hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to Purdue Fort Wayne next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip. That game will air live on the Mastodons' YouTube channel with an audio broadcast available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.
