OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's basketball team welcomes Central State to Millett Hall on Wednesday. The game has a special start time of noon. Parking is free and all tickets are only $1. The game will air live on ESPN+. An audio broadcast will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.
DOMINATING THE SECOND HALF:Â Miami has shown a strong ability to make adjustments and come out strong for the second half in its first three games this season. While defensively the difference is negligible as the RedHawks are giving up an average of 38.7 points per game in the first half and 38.3 points per game in the second half, it is on the offensive side where Miami is pulling away. Right now the 'Hawks are averaging 33.7 points per game in the first half. They turn around and average 47.7 points per game in the second half and have scored 50 or more in each of the last two wins. Junior guard
Nike Sibande is averaging 12.0 points per game during the second half to lead Miami.
BROWN'S BIG START: Junior forward
Dalonte Brown has had a big start to the season. He is Miami's second-leading scorer at 15.7 points per game and is leading the RedHawks in rebounding at 8.0 caroms per game. In Miami's win over Alabama A&M, Brown had a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds. It was the fourth double-double of his career.
ABOUT CENTRAL STATE: The Marauders are 1-2 on the season. It will be a quick turnaround for them as they are taking on Urbana at home Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. While this is a regular game for Miami, it counts as an exhibition for Division II Central State. The Marauders fell to Cedarville in their last game, 83-75 on Nov. 14. Freshman forward Darweshi Hunter has been the star so far for Central State. He is averaging 18.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
THE SERIES WITH CENTRAL STATE: Miami won the only meeting between the two schools, 72-57, back on Dec. 5, 1981. Craig Tubbs led the Red and White with 20 points.
MIAMI VS. SIAC: The Southwestern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is a 14-member Division II Conference. Most of the schools are in the South, with Central State being its farthest north member. All but one of the schools (Spring Hill) are historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Given being in different divisions and the other schools' distance from Miami, the 1981 game against Central State is the only time the Red and White have faced a team that is currently in the SIAC (the Marauders did not join until 2015). The other schools in the SIAC are Albany State, Benedict College, Clark Atlanta, Fort Valley State, Kentucky State, Lane College, LeMoyne-Owen, Miles, Morehouse, Paine College, Savannah State, Spring Hill and Tuskegee.
UP AHEAD: Miami heads to Fort Myers, Florida to compete in the Gulf Coast Showcase next week. The eight-team tournament takes place next Monday through Wednesday. The RedHawks will open against Drake on Monday at 1:30 p.m. Their opponent on Tuesday will be either Northeastern or South Alabama with a tip time of either 11 a.m. or 5 p.m. The final round on Wednesday will be against either Wright State, Weber State, Murray State or La Salle at a to be determined time. All tournament games will be streamed on FloHoops for a fee. An audio broadcast will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.
