Miami to square off against nationally-ranked teams in Friday’s Joe Piane Invitational.
OXFORD, Ohio – Following a successful tune-up at last weekend's RedHawk Rumble, the Miami University cross country teams are set for one of their biggest meets of the season at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational on Friday.
Miami will make the trip to South Bend coming off the RedHawk Rumble on Saturday. The RedHawks dominated the meet, earning a perfect 15 points in both races. Leading the way for the 'Hawks on the day were redshirt senior Alesha Vovk and junior Christopher Torpy, who earned Mid-American Conference Men's Runner of the Week honors for his efforts.
The RedHawks will be a part of a deep, competitive field in South Bend featuring 33 teams on the men's side and 36 on the women's split across two heats each.
The 'Hawks will race in the meet's Blue Division. On the men's side, the Blue Division field features nationally-ranked BYU (#2) and Furman (#28) as well as the host Fighting Irish. The women's field will contain four top-30 squads in BYU (#11), Furman (#12), California (#21), and Notre Dame (#22).
The women's race will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the men to follow at 1:45. Additionally, some Miami runners will compete in the Open Division race at 2:30.
