OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University men's and women's cross country teams will take to New York City this weekend as they compete in Iona College's Meet of Champions in the Bronx on Friday. This will be the 'Hawks second event of the season following the Miami Opener in Oxford. In addition, several runners will head to Cedarville for the 28th Annual Friendship Invitational on Saturday.
August 31 marked the start of fall cross country action as Miami hosted Indiana and Indiana State for the Miami Invitational. The meet was a strong start for RedHawks on both sides. Two women's runners finished in the top ten in Alesha Vovk and Carly Davis (running unattached). Meanwhile, the men's race saw three unattached RedHawks finished in the top ten in Bradley Davis, Christopher Torpy, and Sean Torpy, who finished first overall.
Friday's meet will feature a large field of 21 teams competing, including Indiana, Rutgers, Columbia, and the host Gaels. The race will kick off at Van Cortlandt Park at 10:00 a.m. with the men's 8K. This will be followed by the women's race at 10:45.
Several runners will also split off to compete at Cedarville's Friendship Invitational Saturday. That meet will start with the men's race at 9:30 a.m., the women's race following at 10:15.
