Field Events Headline First Day of Miami Duals

OXFORD, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" Miami University track & field began their first home meet of the season in beautiful weather Friday. It was the throws team that stood out on a day featuring only the field events.
The men's javelin squad began the day in strong fashion, as three 'Hawks landed themselves in the top-10 in the Mid-American Conference. Ben Cambria, who won the event, jumped to fifth in the conference after posting a 175-0. The next RedHawk was senior Carsen Cash, who turned in a PR 170-1 to place fourth. Ben Artrip recorded a 167-7 to take fifth. Artrip, along with Cambria, are the lone freshmen in the MAC top-10.

On the women's side, Danielle Collier won the event unattached with a personal-best 167-9. She was followed by Aaryn Gray, who threw a 136-3 to place second.

"It was really great to see the men and women javelin throwers take advantage of the great weather that we had today," said Assistant Coach Steve Manz, who oversees the throws group. "In particular, Ben Cambria, Carsen Cash, and Ben Artrip proved that our men's javelin group is on its way to exceling like the women's group has in recent years."
More than half a dozen RedHawks PR'd in the javelin alone.
Representing the jumpers was Kenny Glenn, who won the men's long jump. Glenn posted a 23-2.75 in his first jump of the day. With the mark, he pulled himself into fourth in the MAC. Sophomore Hannah Falcione led the women's jumps squad, setting a season-best 38-4.25 in the triple jump to place first. Right behind her was Jada Jones, who took second with a 37-0.5 in her first time competing in the event.

Miami's runners will be the ones in action Saturday. The first event will be the 5000m, which will take place at 10:20 a.m.
