LEXINGTON, Ky. - The No. 6 Kentucky Wildcats held off a late Miami comeback bid, topping the RedHawks 13-7 inside Cliff Hagan Stadium Tuesday evening.
Miami fell into a 10-0 hole after UK plated three runs in the third, one in both the fourth and fifth, and five in the sixth.
The Red & White answered a tough bottom of the sixth by striking for seven runs in the top of the seventh to get back in it. Landon Stephens led off the inning with a walk. Following an out, Brooks Urich reached on a bunt single and both runners moved up one base thanks to a wild pitch. Jordan Stephens walked to load the bases before a Will Vogelgesang squeeze bunt brought in Landon Stephens. Vogelgesang was safe on the play.
With the bases still chucked, Adrian Texidor and Kyle Winkler earned RBIs on a walk and a hit by pitch, respectively, cutting the UK lead to 10-3.
Cal Elvers kept the rally rolling with a three-run double down the left field line and was brought in the next at-bat by a Ross Haffey two-bagger. The big inning had the Red & White within three at 10-7.
The Wildcats re-widened their advantage in the bottom of the eighth, striking for three runs to seal a 13-7 victory.
