
Miami Shuts Out Jacksonville

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Miami University softball team shutout Jacksonville on Saturday by a 6-0 margin. The RedHawks finish the weekend 2-2 and hold a 8-9 record overall this season.

Courtney Vierstra pitched a complete game shutout. Vierstra struck out six batters and only walked two. None of the hits were extra-base hits.
The RedHawks came out strong against Jacksonville, scoring three runs in the first inning. Megan Wurts walked to lead off the inning. Ashton Slone hit a two-run homer. In the very next at-bat, Johniann Wahl hit one over the fence to make it a 3-0 game.
In the bottom of the third, Wurts hit a double to start the inning and advanced to third on a lineout from Slone's bat. With two outs, Wahl hit a double and Wurts scored. Lee hit a double to score Wahl and bring the score to 5-0.
Wurts hit a triple to start the fifth inning and scored on a single from Slone.
Jacksonville got runners on base in five innings, even loading the bases in the top of the sixth inning. Miami's defense kept Jacksonville off the board.
Wurts, Slone and Wahl all registered two hits today with Slone leading the team in RBIs with three.
UP AHEAD
The RedHawks will play their home opener on Wednesday. The first game of the doubleheader against Northern Kentucky will start at 5 p.m.
