OXFORD, Ohio -- Before a crowd of 3,525 fans, a national television audience and Miami Hall-of-Famer Wally Szczerbiak, the Miami University men's basketball team made a spirited second half run, but ultimately fell short to Toledo, 73-67, on Friday. The RedHawks are now 13-12 overall and 6-6 in the Mid-American Conference. The Rockets are 18-7 overall and 10-2 in the MAC.

Miami battled back from an 11-point halftime deficit to take a 41-40 lead midway through the second half, but the Rockets were able to answer and maintain an advantage down the stretch. The RedHawks were hurt by a tough night from behind the arc, finishing 4-for-27 (14.8 percent). Junior point guard Darrian Ringo led Miami with 16 points, while senior forward Logan McLane had 15 and freshman guard Nike Sibande finished with 13.

Both teams came out a bit tentative playing in front of the national TV audience. Freshman forward Dalonte Brown opened the scoring with a three-pointer, but the Red and White would score only three more points over the next seven minutes. They held tough against Toledo defensively, holding the Rockets to only nine. A steal followed by a jumper from freshman guard Isaiah Coleman-Lands, and a layup from sophomore forward Bam Bowman put Miami on top, 10-9 with 10:40 to go in first half.

Ringo, Coleman-Lands and Sibande each had buckets as the teams found themselves tied at 16 with 7:36 remaining in the period. Tied at 18, the Rockets went on an 11-2 run to pull ahead 29-20 before Bowman ended the stretch with a jumper. UT scored the final four points to go into the break leading 33-22.

A three-pointer from McLane to open the second half jumped started the Miami offense. McLane hit a couple of layups, while a three-pointer from Brown pulled the team to within five. A layup from Ringo, followed by a triple from Sibande knotted the score at 39. After Toledo hit a free throw, the RedHawks completed 19-7 run with a layup from Ringo that gave them a 41-40 lead with 14:00 to go.

The Rockets were able to back in front by six at 51-45 with 8:33 to go. Back-to-back layups from McLane pulled Miami to within two, before UT made it a seven-point game at 58-51 at the 5:31 mark. Trailing 61-56, McLane put back a Ringo miss with a dunk to cut the deficit to three at 61-58 with 3:01 to go. With the score 63-60 at the 2:22 mark, the Rockets were able to use free throws to finish the game on an 8-5 run and earn a 71-65 victory.
The RedHawks shot 37.8 percent (28-for-74) overall from the game, while Toledo hit 23-for-51 (45.1 percent) of its shots. The difference came at the foul line, where the Rockets were 21-for-28 (75.0 percent), while Miami was 7-for-10 (70.0 percent). The rebounding battle was dead even at 39 apiece. Freshman guard Jalen Adaway led the `Hawks with nine boards. Toledo was led by Nate Navigato with 19 points.
The RedHawks return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Eastern Michigan for a 7 p.m. tip. That game will air live on ESPN3.
