SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Miami University track and field concluded its indoor regular season Saturday at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational. The team traveled mostly distance runners from both the men's and women's sides. After the rest of the squad tallied five top-three finishes at Ohio State, the South Bend squad tacked on five more to wrap up the weekend.
Freshman Sarah Bruns led off the day with a third-place finish in the 60m hurdles. She earned her spot in the finals with a personal-best 9.06. In the finals, she turned in a 9.22.
Bruns ran again later in the day with Kalliopi Kountouri, Emily Hooker, and Olivia Bechtel in the 4x400m. They ran a second-place-worthy 3:43.62 to come within just one second of the all-time Miami record of 3:42.87 for the third straight week. The group marked a 3:43.53 at last weekend's Music City Challenge and a 3:43.43 back at Notre Dame two weeks ago.
The rest of the top performances came on the men's side. Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Tom Chorny had two milers - Sean Torpy and Christopher Torpy - drop beneath the 4:10 mark. Sean finished second with a 4:06.29 and Chris took ninth with a 4:09.57. Both were personal bests.
All three RedHawks running in the 3000m ended up in the top-six. The first member of the Red & White to cross was Ben Metzger, whose 8:24.39 landed him second. David Coffey crossed in a personal-best 8:28.09 to finish third, and Matthew Bromley took sixth with a PR 8:31.39.
While the men's indoor season is now done, the women are gearing up for next weekend's Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships at Bowling Green. Stay tuned to the web site and @MiamiOH_XCTF on Twitter for full coverage throughout the week.
