Miami Puts Out Flames In Chicago

The RedHawks beat the University of Illinois-Chicago by a 65-56 margin on Saturday.

CHICAGO – The Miami University women's basketball team (5-1) beat the University of Illinois-Chicago (1-5) by a 65-56 margin on Saturday. Leah Purvis and Baleigh Reid each had season highs in points, scoring 18 and six, respectively. Kendall McCoy tied her season high with 16 points. Lauren Dickerson tied her career high with nine assists.

Leah Purvis put the RedHawks on the board with a pair of free throws before the Flames took an early 4-2 lead. Purvis sunk two in-a-row from behind the arc to give Miami an 8-4 lead midway through the first quarter.
 


 
The two teams traded a couple baskets with Lauren Dickerson doing her best to give Miami possession, putting up four steals in the first 10 minutes of play. Miami held a 14-8 lead after one quarter.
 


 
UIC went on an 8-0 run to start the second quarter and take the lead before Reid tied the game at 16 points. Purvis put down a jumper to score in double figures for the first time this season with 1:29 left in the second quarter. Reid's jumper with seven seconds left in the half gave Miami a two-point lead (22-20) going into the locker room and Reid a new season-high six points.

The Red and White began the third quarter with a 9-4 run off of three-pointers from Purvis (2) and McCoy. Purvis had a season-high four from behind the arc against UIC.
 


 
At the media timeout with 4:54 remaining in the third quarter, Miami held a 10-point lead, which tied for its largest lead of the day. UIC put together an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to cut the RedHawks' lead to two. Miami had a 40-37 lead after 30 minutes of play.

The RedHawks pulled down seven offense rebounds during the game to give themselves six second-chance points.
 


 
The Red and White scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. McCoy had a season-high four baskets from long range.
 


 
Miami returns to Millet to host Cincinnati on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. for faculty/staff appreciation and Give Back night.
