OXFORD, Ohio - After Thanksgiving is in the rear view mirror, the Miami University men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Army West Point. Tip time is scheduled for 2 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN+.
BROWN ON HOT STREAK: Sophomore forward
Dalonte Brown continued his hot offensive start to the 2018-19 season down in the Bahamas over the weekend. He began with a career-high 25 points on 9-for-11 shooting in the win over North Dakota State. He nearly made it a double-double by bringing in a team-high nine rebounds. Brown continued the next day with 12 points and six rebounds against Montana despite playing only 22 minutes due to foul trouble. He concluded the tournament with 16 points and seven rebounds against Pepperdine. Brown is currently the RedHawks' second-leading scorer at 17.4 points per game, and its leading rebounder at 6.2 caroms per contest.
SPREADING THE MINUTES AROUND: As the team continues to establish its rotation during the non-conference season, head coach
Jack Owens has been spreading the minutes around, which will help keep the legs fresh for Mid-American Conference season. Miami has played 10 players in all five contests so far with every player averaging at least 10 minutes per game and all averaging less than 30. Sophomore guard
Nike Sibande lead the 'Hawks averaging 29.5 minutes per game.
ABOUT ARMY WEST POINT: Army West Point is 1-4 on the season. Prior to facing Miami, the Black Knights will host Maritime on Wednesday. After defeating Marist to open the season, they battled Duke tough on national TV before the Blue Devils were able to pull away late. Over the weekend, they dropped three games at the Brown Bears Tip-Off Classic, falling to Sacred Heart (79-78), UMass-Lowell (92-85) and Brown (86-66). Army like to play at a fast pace, as it regularly plays between nine and 13 athletes per game. Its best player is junior forward Matt Wilson. He averages a team-leading 17.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
THE SERIES WITH ARMY WEST POINT: This is the first meeting between the RedHawks and the Black Knights.
MIAMI VS. PATRIOT LEAGUE: The Patriot League is made up of eight private schools and two service academies all located in the Northeast corridor of the United States. All of the schools are well known for their high academic standards. The only time Miami has ever faced a school from the Patriot League is when it defeated Boston University, 70-53, on Nov. 27, 1998. In addition to Army West Point, the RedHawks have never faced American, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola (Md.) or Navy.
UP AHEAD: For the second time this season, Miami will play in front of a national audience as it travels to Xavier next Wednesday for its first game against the Musketeers since 2014. Tip time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and it will air live on Fox Sports 1, with an audio broadcast available on Miami College Sports Live from IMG College.
