CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2018-19 men's basketball preseason poll results as voted upon by coaches and members of the media on Tuesday. The Miami RedHawks were picked to finish second in the MAC East Division.
Buffalo was the overwhelming pick to win the MAC East, receiving all 35 first place votes and 210 total points. It was a close vote for second place as the RedHawks had 127 points, while Kent State finished in third with 122 points. Ohio was right behind both teams in fourth with 121 points. Akron and Bowling Green rounded out the poll.
There was not much consensus on the predicted finish of the MAC West. Eastern Michigan finished first with 17 first place votes. Behind it was Ball State in second place with 11 first place votes. Toledo was picked third and it got five first place votes. Western Michigan, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan rounded out the poll with the Broncos and Chippewas each receiving one first place vote.
All 35 voters were also asked to pick a MAC Tournament Champion. Buffalo again was the favorite, receiving 25 votes. Eastern Michigan and Toledo received three votes each. Miami was the pick of one voter, as were Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
