LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Miami University field hockey team fell to No. 10 Louisville in overtime on Sunday. The RedHawks drop to 10-6 this season and the Cardinals improve to 11-4.
The Cardinals took the first shot of the game after nine minutes of play but
Maddie Passarella turned it aside.
In the 19
th minute, Miami earned the first penalty corner of the game but the game remained scoreless.
Leonor Berlie gave the RedHawks a 1-0 lead as time expired in the first half on a direct penalty corner feed from
Estel Roig and
Noor Breedijk. This was Berlie's fifth goal of the season.
After 35 minutes of play, Miami led the game in penalty corners (2-1) and shots on goal (2-1).
The RedHawks earned the first penalty corner of the second half during the 40
th minute but Berlie's shot was saved.
In the 42
nd minute, the Cardinals tied the game with a cross pass.
Berlie gave the Miami the lead once again off a direct penalty corner feed during the 57
th minute of play. Her sixth goal of the season came from Roig and
Marie-Claire Gorner.
With less than five minutes remaining, Passarella made a save to preserve the 2-1 'Hawks lead.
Louisville tied the game with less than one minute remaining on a direct penalty corner goal.
As regulation time expired,
Paula Portugal took a shot that sailed high.
Miami began the overtime period with one less player because of a yellow card near the end of regulation. Louisville put one in on a direct penalty corner feed during the second minute of overtime to end the game.
The RedHawks led the game in penalty corners (6-5) and shots on goal (6-5).
