MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Miami University men's basketball team jumped out to an early lead and used a consistent offensive attack and a strong defense to earn a 70-61 victory at Central Michigan on Tuesday. The RedHawks improve to 11-9 overall and 4-3 in the Mid-American Conference. The Chippewas fall to 13-7 overall and 2-5 in the MAC.
Freshman guard Nike Sibande led the Miami offense with a career-high 22 points. He was 8-for-12 from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc. Senior forward Logan McLane continued to provide a low-post presence, finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard Isaiah Coleman-Lands came off the bench and hit four key 3-pointers, finishing with 12 points and six rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Sibande got the offense going with back-to-back three-pointers to open the game. A layup from freshman forward Dalonte Brown and a jumper from Sibande quickly gave Miami a 10-2 lead at the 17:38 mark. The RedHawks built the lead to 10 points after a layup from sophomore forward Bam Bowman made it 14-4 and forced a CMU timeout with 15:40 left in the half.
Out of the break, the Chippewas scored eight in a row to close to within two. Junior guard Darrian Ringo found freshman guard Jalen Adaway to end the CMU run, but five straight by the Chips gave them their first lead at 17-16 at the 9:35 mark.
A triple from senior forward Rod Mills Jr. put Miami back on top. It started a 16-5 run that got the RedHawks back in front by 10 at 32-22. Freshman guard Isaiah Coleman-Lands drained two 3-pointers, while Sibande had another triple as part of that run. Central Michigan closed the half on a 5-1 run, sending the RedHawks into the break with a 33-27 advantage.

Sibande led Miami with 13 points in the first half. The Red and White shot 40.6 percent (13-for-32) from the field, including 6-for-14 (42.9 percent) from behind the arc. Miami held CMU to 31.4 percent (11-for-35) shooting and outrebounded the Chippewas 27-18 in the period.
Brown opened up the second half with a three-pointer. Despite that, Central Michigan answered with an 8-1 run to pull within three at 38-35 with 16:05 to go. Miami answered that charge with a layup and three-pointer by Sibande and a layup by McLane that made it 45-35 with 14:22 to go.

Ringo found Adaway for a three-pointer, while Coleman-Lands found Sibande for a layup to give the RedHawks their largest lead at 53-41 at the 10:21 mark. The Chippewas were able to hit a couple three-pointers, closing the game to within three at 62-59 with 2:24 to go. Coleman-Lands then hit the dagger three to end the CMU threat. Miami hit its free throws down the final minute and a half to secure the 70-61 victory.

Miami shot 45.5 percent (25-for-55) from the field, including 11-for-23 (47.8 percent) from behind the three-point line. Ringo kept the offense moving with 10 assists. The RedHawk defense held Central Michigan to 37.7 percent (23-for-61) shooting. The Chippewas were led by Kevin McKay with 17 points.
Miami returns home on Saturday to take on Eastern Michigan at 3:30 p.m. It is part of a doubleheader that will see the women's basketball team take on Ohio at 1 p.m. Both games will air live on ESPN3.
