
Western Michigan Rallies to Top Miami

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Trailing by 10 points at the half, Western Michigan rallied to top the Miami University women's basketball team, 81-70, Saturday afternoon. Lauren Dickerson and Kendall McCoy each finished with 20 points while Kayla Brown chipped in 12 points.
It took almost a minute to get the game's first bucket but Miami (10-8, 2-5 MAC) opened the scoring with a McCoy jumper. The teams traded makes over the next several minutes with a Dickerson three-pointer taking the teams into the media timeout with the RedHawks owning a 15-13 advantage.

A Bronco basket out of the timeout was answered by a Baleigh Reid layup and a Molly McDonagh field goal. Following a WMU jumper, McCoy converted on an and-one to give MU a five-point lead at 22-17. The Broncos and RedHawks traded three-pointers to close the quarter. Miami led 25-20 after 10 minutes of play.

Western Michigan (11-8, 4-3 MAC) garnered the first eight points of the second period, forcing a Miami timeout just 2:32 in. The run had the Broncos in front, 28-25. However, the timeout proved fruitful as the RedHawks fired right back to capture 17 of the game's next 22 points to move back in front, 42-33.

Following a Bronco timeout, the teams traded baskets, the latter of which was a Miami three-pointer by Dickerson with under 10 seconds to go in the half. The bucket sent the Red & White into the locker room with a 45-35 lead.

Miami's 10-point lead quickly disappeared as the Broncos began another quarter on an 8-0, forcing a RedHawk timeout 2:46 in. A McCoy three-pointer out of the break put the MU lead back to five but the Broncos scored the next five points to knot the game at 48-all before a Kristen Levering jumper sent the teams into the media timeout with the `Hawks holding a 50-48 advantage.

WMU closed the quarter on an 11-4 run to grab a 59-54 lead after 30 minutes.
In the final frame, Miami worked the deficit down to as little as two but 11 Bronco fourth-quarter free throws helped them close out the RedHawks as WMU came back to earn a 81-70 victory.
Miami is back on the road this coming Wednesday as they face off with Eastern Michigan at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
