
Resilient RedHawks Topple Eagles on the Road

YPSILANTI, Mich. - Lauren Dickerson posted 33 points while Kendall McCoy went for 19 as the Miami women's basketball team upended Eastern Michigan, 73-69, to earn a big road victory Wednesday evening.
The win improves the Red & White's record to 11-8 (3-5 MAC) on the year, matching last season's win total. The Eagles drop to 9-10 (5-3 MAC) with the defeat.
Savannah Kluesner joined Dickerson and McCoy in double figures, notching 10 points to go with four blocks. As a team, MU shot 45 percent from the field, including 42.9 percent form downtown. EMU was paced by Sasha Dailey's 26 points and shot 43.8 percent as a team.
The game's first basket didn't come until 2:12 in but a Kayla Brown layup got the Red & White on the board first. Much of the frame was marked by back-and-forth play, and the score indicated that come the quarter's close. After 10 minutes, the Eagles owned a slim 17-15 lead.

Miami opened the second with a 6-0 run, which was capped with a Baleigh Reid and-one conversion.
Reid goes up, hits and is fouled! She makes the free throw to complete the three-point play. 23-17 Miami with 7:31 to go in the opening half.

The Eagles answered by pouring in eight of the next 10 points to knot it at 25 apiece. However, the RedHawks came right back to score the final seven points of the period courtesy of a pair of McCoy free throws, as well as a Dickerson layup and three-pointer, giving them a 32-25 lead at the break.

Kluesner keyed the Miami scoring to begin the second half, collecting the team's first four points out of the locker room. With the score at 36-29 with just over two minutes gone, the Eagles went on a 12-5 run, quickly evening the contest at 41-all. The 'Hawks answered with a mini run of their own as two layups by Kluesner and a Dickerson triple helped MU close the quarter on a 7-3 run to lead it, 48-44, through 30 minutes.

Exactly three minutes into the final period, an EMU basket had the Eagles back within one at 53-52, but a McCoy field goal and a Molly McDonagh layup widened the lead back to 57-52 with 5:51 to go.

EMU clawed back with a three-pointer and a layup to even the game at 57-57 as the teams entered the media timeout. After exiting said timeout, an Eagle free throw put EMU in front, 58-57, with 4:55 to play in regulation. However, a McCoy triple put the 'Hawks back ahead, 60-58.
McCoy's make from long range gives the lead back to Miami. 60-58 RedHawks with four and a half minutes to go.

The next several minutes saw the teams jockey back and forth before an Eagle three-pointer gave the home team a 69-68 advantage. It was the final tally EMU would collect as five Dickerson free throws sealed the hard-fought victory.
Miami is back in action on Saturday as they host Ohio inside Millett Hall at 1 p.m. The men's basketball team will follow at 3:30 as they battle Eastern Michigan.
