OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University field hockey team's rally against Ohio State fell short, resulting in a 3-2 RedHawks' loss. The RedHawks drop to 2-3 on the season and the Buckeyes improve to 3-1.
"You have to learn from, in this case, Ohio State," said head coach Inako Puzo, "when the other team is doing the right things and what they did different was the speed of the game."
Miami trailed the game in shots 19-7 and penalty corners 5-2.
During the 16th minute, Henni Otten netted her first goal of the season when Ohio State's goalkeeper, Liz Tamburro, went down to make the save early.
The Buckeyes tied the game in the 27th minute when Juliette Duquesne netted her first goal of the season off of a pass from Casey Cole. Ohio State scored again in the 33rd minute when Maddy Humphrey put in her third goal of the season on a rebound.
The Buckeyes netted an insurance goal in the 54th minute when Lauren Carroll tipped in her first goal of the season off of a pass from Maartje Bongers on a penalty corner.
Miami scored again in the 67th minute of play when Allie Grace Joyner netted her first collegiate goal on her third shot of the sequence. After this goal, the RedHawks pulled Maddie Passarella from the net in order to gain an offensive advantage, but were unable to tie the game.
Joyner led the RedHawks with three shots. Maddie Passarella made eight saves in net.
Miami travels to Indiana on Sunday for a noon contest.
