RedHawks Tie Game Late but Fall in Extras Against Butler

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings but Butler was able to plate four in the 10th to take an 8-4 victory over the Red & White on Wednesday evening at McKie Field.
The RedHawks (19-28) capitalized on a leadoff single from Cal Elvers in the bottom of the second. J.T. Stone followed by drawing a walk before both he and Elvers were moved over on a Will Vogelgesang sacrifice bunt. The small ball set the table for Steve Sada, who pulled a double down the right field line to bring in Elvers and Stone to give Miami a 2-0 lead.
Butler (25-16) answered the bell and took the lead in the top of the sixth, plating three on a two-run double and a one-run double.
The Bulldogs tacked on one more in the ninth on a bases-loaded walk to widen their advantage to 4-2. In need of two runs to keep the game going, the RedHawks got just that in the bottom half of the frame. Stone got Miami within one with an RBI single to left before Ryan McLelland came all the way around from second to score on a wild pitch, knotting the contest at 4-all and sending the Red & White to their second extra-inning game in as many nights.
Butler pulled ahead for good in the top of the 10th, touching home four times in the frame, and kept Miami off of the board in the home half to take the victory.
The RedHawks are back on the field this Friday at 6 p.m. as they begin their series with MAC East rival Buffalo at McKie Field.
