BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A three-run second inning was all Bowling Green needed as it defeated Miami, 3-1, in the series finale at Steller Field on Sunday.
The Falcons (11-28, 6-12 MAC) jumped on the Red & White early with three runs on three hits in the home half of the second.
Miami (19-26, 5-10 MAC) got a run back in the fifth when a Ross Haffey double plated one. Brooks Urich started the frame with a walk before a one-out single by Spencer Dull put runners on first and second. Following another out, Haffey pulled one into left along the line to score Urich and cut the Bowling Green lead to 3-1 through four and a half innings played.
Neither team would score the rest of the way as the bullpens held strong down the stretch.
Adam Yacek and Dallas Hall led the RedHawks offensively as both finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate.
Nick Ernst got the starting nod on the mound for the `Hawks, his first career start. The sophomore went five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out three. Andy Almquist was the first out of the bullpen for Miami, giving up no runs on four hits in 2.1 frames of work. Ryan Marske tossed two-thirds of an inning and came up big by striking out two after coming on with one out and runners on the corners in the eighth.
The Red & White get back on the diamond this Tuesday when they head to Louisville to take on the Cardinals at 6 p.m. Miami's final midweek contest of the season will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. as it hosts Butler at McKie Field. The team remains home for the weekend and welcomes Buffalo to town for a very important three-game series.
