Last Week: Miami (20-16 overall, 6-4 MAC) produced a mixed bag of results last week against Bowling Green and Toledo. On Tuesday, the RedHawks split a road doubleheader against the Falcons in a pair of low-scoring contests. In game one, the Red and White only tallied four hits, but a late rally propelled them to victory. In the sixth, senior second baseman Eryn McCarver put Miami on the board with a RBI single up the middle, followed by another run from a sac fly by senior outfielder Jenna Jones. After BGSU tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, junior designated player Megan Wurts scored from second on a throwing error to put Miami ahead for good. The Miami offense was once again held in check in the nightcap as Bowling Green used a pair of RBIs to grab a 2-0 win. (RECAP) Returning home for Friday's opener against Toledo, the Miami offense reignited in a 9-5 victory. After giving up two runs in the first inning, the RedHawks batted around in a five-run frame, but the Rockets would tie it up with a three-run top of the fifth. In the bottom half, a pair of doubles from junior third baseman Kat Lee and senior catcher Lauren Anderson put Miami ahead for good, leading to an eventual 9-5 win. (RECAP) In Saturday's doubleheader opener, the RedHawks broke through with a furious third inning that began with home runs from sophomore shortstop Michaela Schlattman and Lee. Three batters later, junior catch Rylee Whispel broke open the game with a bases-clearing double that made it 6-0. As freshman starter Jaime Scher held Toledo in check, the Miami offense continued to dominate in a 14-1 result. Following the first-game onslaught, Rockets starter Rachel Webb shut down the Miami bats, allowing only two hits in a complete game effort. By way of a three-run first inning, Toledo rode solid pitching and outstanding defense to a 4-0 win that salvaged a win in the series.
