HAMILTON, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" In a tightly contested match, Miami University's women's tennis team defeated the University of Toledo, 5-2, Friday afternoon at the Riverside Athletic Club. Despite dropping the opening doubles point, the RedHawks (8-9, 3-1 MAC) used a trio of three-set victories and three tiebreakers to hold off a competitive Rockets (8-10, 0-5 MAC) squad.

In doubles, Toledo struck first as Sidnay Huck and Colleen O'Brien topped senior Andreea Badileanu and sophomore Emily Struble, 6-3, in third position. The first-flight pair of junior Nelli Ponomareva and sophomore Anzhelika Shapovalova dominated DeeDee Leenabanchong and Mimi Kendall-Woseley, 6-2, to knot the competition. But Toledo's No. 2 duo of Claire Aleck and Megan Miller pulled away from juniors Hannah Shteyn and Anastasiia Vasiukhina, 6-3, to clinch the opening point.

Shteyn rebounded in singles with a commanding 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 to tie the match at 1, followed by Struble's tight 7-6 (4), 6-3 fourth-flight win that put Miami ahead for good. Vasiukhina used a comeback in a first-set tiebreaker to pull out a 7-6 (7), 6-2 win at No. 6. Following a tough second set, Badileanu closed strong to seal the RedHawks' victory with a 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-2 result at No. 3. Miami's final point of the day came as Shapovalova stormed back in the third set for a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory in second position.
