OXFORD, Ohio - With the game knotted at 3-all heading into the ninth, a three-run top of the inning for Northern Kentucky handed the Norse a 6-3 victory over Miami on Wednesday at McKie Field. The loss dropped the Red & White's record to 4-14 on the season while NKU moved to 7-11.

Miami's starting pitcher, Grant Hartwig, was solid in 5.2 innings of work as he allowed just two runs on seven hits while fanning five. The RedHawks used four relievers with the third, Andy Almquist, taking the loss and falling to 0-1. Norse reliever Cameron Ross picked up the victory and improved his record to 2-0.

The Red & White got on the board first with a two-run bottom of the fourth. Adam Yacek got the action started with a one-out base hit through the right side before being brought home the next at-bat on a J.T. Stone triple to the gap in right. Tyler Harris helped MU get its second run of the frame when he lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Stone and making it 2-0 RedHawks through four.

One-run singles in the fifth and sixth innings for NKU knotted the game up at two apiece until the top of the eighth, when the Norse took their first lead of the day on a sacrifice fly to right. Miami got the run back in the bottom half of the inning when an errant throw on a would-be double play allowed Carlos Texidor to score from second.

In the top of the ninth, with the score deadlocked at 3-3, a bases-loaded double for NKU brought everyone around and in to score, giving the Norse a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the frame. NKU sealed the victory by setting the 'Hawks down in order.

Miami gets back on the field this Friday at 6 p.m. as they begin conference play at home against Western Michigan.
