Softball
Last Week: Miami (12-11) extended its winning streak to six with a perfect weekend at the Miami Invitational presented by Best Western - Sycamore Inn. On Saturday, the RedHawks used a four-run third inning to top Detroit Mercy, 9-1, in a six-inning contest. Junior center fielder Kaitlyn Gliha was 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs, while sophomore starter Shannon Hohman only allowed two hits in a complete game outing . In the nightcap, Miami hit three homers in an 11-2 five-inning victory over Fort Wayne. Sophomore first baseman Johniann Wahl went 3-for-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. (RECAP) Sunday's rematch with Detroit Mercy involved less scoring, but a 4-for-4 performance from junior third baseman Kat Lee helped lead a late rally that gave Miami a 4-1 win. In the tournament finale, the Miami offense was held mostly in check by Dayton, but a three-run third and outstanding effort from senior starter Kelsey Fredericks powered a 3-2 victory over the Flyers. This Week: The RedHawks head to Northern Kentucky for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before opening up conference play against Western Michigan this weekend. Miami will face WMU on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Tennis
Last Week: In their final tuneup before Mid-American Conference play, the RedHawks (4-8) pulled out a 4-2 victory over regional foe Dayton last Wednesday. Miami dropped the doubles point with setbacks at flights one and two, which followed a win out of the third pairing of Andreea Badileanu and Emily Struble. Trailing 2-1 at the conclusion of the first two singles flights, the Red and White pulled out wins in their top three singles spots to follow up as Badileanu posted a straight-sets win over Jade Kawamoto (6-2, 6-2) while Nelli Ponomareva (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Anzhelika Shapovalova (6-1, 2-6, 6-4) grinded out a pair of three-set victories over Marlys Bridgham and Alex Townsend, respectively, to hand MU a 4-2 victory (RECAP). This Week: The RedHawks will return to the courts on Friday, March 24 for their Mid-American Conference opener against Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. in Oxford.
Baseball
Last Week: The RedHawks (4-13) went 1-3 this past week. On Thursday, Miami made the trip down to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats. Freshman Grant Hartwig pitched a career-high eight innings and allowed just one run to give the 'Hawks a chance. However, MU could not get the offense going as they fell to UC, 1-0 (RECAP). The Red & White opened their series against East Tennessee State on Saturday with a 4-2 victory. Sophomore Shane Smith tossed his first collegiate complete game to lead the way for the RedHawks (RECAP). A Sunday doubleheader saw the Miami offense sputter as they mustered just one total run on the day. The 'Hawks dropped a tight 2-1 decision in the first contest before the Buccaneer offense erupted in game two, leading ETSU to a 14-0 victory and a series win (RECAP). This Week: Miami continues its homestand by hosting Northern Kentucky on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The team then opens Mid-American Conference play at home as Western Michigan comes to town for a three-game weekend series that is set to begin on Friday with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
Diving
Last Week: Miami University redshirt junior diver, Pei Lin placed second at the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships in the three-meter dive Friday night at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. She finished seventh nationally in the one-meter dive the previous night. (RECAP) This Week: Miami swimming and diving is done for the year.
