COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Amelia Strickler placed 10th in shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday evening. The senior tossed a 54-6 in the final indoor appearance of her career. Final results are available here.
"Amelia represented Miami very well today," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Tom Chorny. "To step in the ring ranked 12th against the best in the nation and to come away with a 10th place finish is a great accomplishment."
The top-10 finish was only the icing on top of a phenomenal season for Strickler. The senior made the most of her last run at indoor field events, leading Miami's shot put team to a number-one national ranking, setting a new Miami all-time record, and landing a top-15 national ranking individually.
This was Strickler's second career appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships. In 2015, she finished 15th with a 51-1.75.
Assistant Coach Steve Manz, who coaches the throwers, believes Strickler has even more to show off in the upcoming outdoor season. He said, "We are on the verge of something really special and it will be exciting to see it happen in Miami red!"
The senior will now join the rest of her women's track and field team as well as the men's team in preparing for the upcoming outdoor season. To begin the spring season, a handful of RedHawks will head west for the Stanford Invite on March 31, while the remainder of the team will stay home and host the Miami Duals on April 1.
