OXFORD, Ohio -- Led by its seniors on Senior Day, the Miami University volleyball team cruised to its third straight victory with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-13) win over Ohio on Saturday. The RedHawks improve to 19-8 overall and 11-3 in the Mid-American Conference. The Bobcats fall to 14-14 overall and 8-6 in the MAC.

"I really liked how we served tonight, we spread the offense around and we really shined in the blocking area," said head coach Carolyn Condit. "There was a great sense of purpose tonight against a team that is very worthy and we did not want to let them in the front door. I was especially pleased with how we closed out the third set."

The RedHawk defense forced Ohio into 22 attack errors on the day and a .033 hitting percentage. Miami held the blocking advantage 10-9 with senior middle hitter Meredith Stutz having her hand in six of those blocks (two solo and four assisted). Senior Maeve McDonald led the defense with 18 digs, while redshirt junior setter Mackenzie Zielinski had 15. She made it a double-double with 16 assists.

Despite kills from sophomore middle hitter Margaret Payne and junior outside hitter Stela Kukoc, along with a service ace from senior outside hitter Olivia Rusek, Ohio jumped to a 12-9 lead to begin set one. Senior right side hitter Katie Tomasic and Rusek each put down kills, while a kill from Kukoc off an assist by freshman setter Morgan Seaman tied the score at 14. Tied at 17, a kill from sophomore outside hitter Taylor Daignault and a block from Daignault and Stutz put the Red and White in front. Ohio scored next, but Miami closed on a 6-1 run to take a 25-19 win.

Set two stayed tight throughout as neither team built more than a three-point advantage at any point. Trailing 12-13, back-to-back kills from Rusek and a service ace by Stutz put Miami on top, 15-13. The Bobcats fought back to tie the score at 18. An Ohio service error and a service ace from McDonald gave the RedHawks the advantage yet again, but the Bobcats again fought back to tie the score at 22. At that point, a block by Stutz and Daignault and an Ohio attack error gave MU set point and forced the Bobcats to call timeout. The break did not help, as OU hit a shot long and Miami took the set 25-22.

Tied at seven in set three, a kill from Payne and a service ace by McDonald got the RedHawk offense rolling. Tomasic, Kukoc, Stutz and Daignault each had blocks that helped Miami increase its lead to 15-8 and force a Bobcat timeout. After the break Stutz had two more blocks and a service ace that gave Miami a 21-10 advantage. That proved to be more than enough as back-to-back kills from senior right side hitter Courtney Bemis and Stutz finished off a 25-13 win and gave the `Hawks a straight-set victory.

Rusek led Miami with nine kills, while Tomasic had seven and Stutz and Kukoc each had six. Daignault had 13 digs and three blocks, while Seaman finished with 15 assists and six digs.

The RedHawks hit the road for the final weekend of the regular season. It begins on Friday when they travel to Buffalo for a 6 p.m. match. That contest will air live on ESPN3.
