CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- A hot shooting performance by Austin Peay and too many turnovers for the Miami University men's basketball team resulted in an 86-61 loss on Sunday afternoon. The RedHawks fall to 3-3 on the season, while the Governors improve to 3-3.

Miami finished the game shooting 46.7 percent (21-for-45) from the field, but was hurt by 21 turnovers. The Governors turned those turnovers into 31 points. Austin Peay was 33-for-55 (60.0 percent) from the field, including 9-for-15 (60.0 percent) from behind the arc, hitting eight triples in the first half.

The RedHawks still had some strong individual performances led by freshman guard Nike Sibande who led the way with 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Freshman guard Isaiah Coleman-Lands scored a career-high 14 points, while freshman guard Jalen Adaway contributed 13.

After Austin Peay scored first, a triple from senior forward Logan McLane, a steal and a dunk from Sibande and a layup from McLane completed a 7-0 run that gave Miami an early 7-2 lead at the 16:36 mark of the first half. The Governors began to get hot from behind the arc at that point, draining three 3-pointers as part of a 16-4 run that made it 18-11 with 11:44 to go.

Coleman-Lands ended the run with a triple of his own, but APSU continued its strong shooting. Four more three-pointers helped increase the advantage to 42-20 while the RedHawks offense went cold. A three-pointer from Sibande and a layup by Adaway ended a nearly seven minute stretch without a field goal for Miami, but the Governors hit a shot at the buzzer to take a 51-29 advantage into the break.

Austin Peay was 20-for-30 (66.7 percent) from the field in the first half, including 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from behind the arc. The RedHawks were 8-for-20 (40.0 percent) from the field and a respectable 4-for-8 (50.0 percent) from three-point land, but were hurt by 12 turnovers in the period. Sibande and McLane led Miami with eight points each during the frame.

Sibande hit a pair of jumpers, while Adaway and Coleman-Lands each hit shots, but the RedHawks were unable to break into the Governors lead during the second half. Austin Peay used a 12-0 run to build its lead to as large as 39 points at 79-40 before settling for the 86-61 win.

McLane finished with eight points for Miami, while sophomore forward Bam Bowman was the leading rebounder with five. The Governors had a slight 30-26 rebounding edge and were led by Dayton Gumm with 23 points.

After a four-game road trip, the RedHawks return home to take on Midway on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN3.
