Volleyball
Last Week: Miami (21-8 overall, 13-3 MAC) earned it second consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship with two wins this past weekend to end the regular season. Friday's match did not go quite as planned, as redshirt junior setter Mackenzie Zielinski went down with an injury only a few points into the match. However, the RedHawks rebounded from a first set loss to earn a 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22) win over Buffalo. (Recap) Miami earned the regular season championship with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-22) victory over Akron on Saturday. (Recap) This Week: As the top seed, the RedHawks have received a double-bye to the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament, which takes place Thursday through Sunday at Millett Hall. Miami will take on either Ohio, Buffalo or Eastern Michigan in its semifinal match on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. With a victory, the 'Hawks will be in the MAC Championship match on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: The Jack Owens era got off to a dramatic start as Miami erased a 12-point second half deficit with freshman guard Jalen Adaway hitting the game winning layup with four seconds remaining to lead the RedHawks to a 55-54 win at Fordham. Adaway finished with a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds in his first career game. (Recap) This Week: A busy week featuring three games awaits Miami. On Tuesday, the Red and White host Wright State for their home opener at 7 p.m. It will air live on ESPN3. The RedHawks then head to Montego Bay, Jamaica for a pair of games in the Jamaica Classic. On Friday, Miami takes on LIU Brooklyn at 8:30 p.m. It will air on the CBS Sports Network on a tape delay at Midnight. Sunday, the RedHawks face off against Hartford at 10 p.m. That game will air live on the CBS Sports Network.
Field Hockey
Last Week: Miami (12-9 overall, 8-0 MAC) won its first NCAA tournament game in school history on Wednesday as the RedHawks beat No. 16 Stanford 2-1 in the opening round. Paula Portugal scored both of Miami's goals with Henni Otten assisting on the first one. The RedHawks controlled the game, leading in both shots 13-8 and penalty corners 8-2 (Recap). Miami fell to No. 2 Duke 4-2 in a hard-fought game on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The RedHawks were down 3-0 in the second half when Lexi Silver put in Paula Portugal's rebound to cut the Blue Devils' lead. Less than five minutes later Henni Otten made it a 3-2 game off a direct penalty corner feed from Estel Roig. Miami led the game in penalty corners 5-1 (Recap).
Women's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (1-0) opened the regular season in a big way this past Friday when they topped Detroit Mercy, 91-64, at home inside Millett Hall. The result earned head coach Megan Duffy her first career win. Lauren Dickerson scored 26 points and added eight assists while Savannah Kluesner posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds (Recap). This Week: Miami is on the road for two contests this week, the first at Purdue on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game can be seen on Big Ten Network Plus with a subscription. The Red & White close the week on Saturday when they head to Cincinnati for a 2 p.m. tip against the Bearcats. Fans can stream the game via Bearcats TV. The game will be held at Saint Ursula Academy in Cincinnati due to renovations at Fifth Third Arena.
Swimming and Diving
Last Week: The men and women traveled to Michigan State for a duel meet on Saturday. The women won 160-140 and the men lost 180-118. Pei Lin and Harrison Moncino swept the diving events for the RedHawks. Izzy Herb took gold in the 200 fly (2:05.24) and 200 back (2:02.49), Ella Moynihan claimed both the 200 (1:51.73) and 500 (4:59.78) freestyle and Holly Schuster won the 200 breaststroke (2:18.84) and individual medley (2:05.97). Emma Bradley also emerged from the water with a win as she won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:11.05. On the men's side, Iago Amaral do Moussalem won the 100 fly (49.89), Justin Andrews won the 200 IM (1:54.13) and Gordon Wheeler won the 200 free (1:43.07). (Recap). Next Week: The RedHawks are off until they host the Miami Invitational November 30-December 2.
Hockey
Last Week: The RedHawks (4-5-1, 1-2-1-0 NCHC) faced a stiff road test as they resumed conference play at the No. 2/4 North Dakota Fighting Hawks over the weekend. Despite outshooting UND 9-4 in the opening 20 minutes, MU skated scoreless into intermission and fell behind early in the second. The Fighting Hawks added two more before the second intermission to take a 3-0 lead. Karch Bachman drew the Red & White closer in the third, but they ultimately fell by a 4-1 count (Recap). Looking to salvage a split on Saturday, the RedHawks drew first blood as Gordie Green made it 1-0 late in the first and Ryan Siroky put them ahead 2-0 midway through the second. UND got one back before the second intermission and tied it up 33 seconds into the third. The Fighting Hawks were in position for a sweep, scoring with 3:38 to go, but Josh Melnick tied it up with Miami playing with an empty net to force overtime. The teams skated to a 3-3 tie with the Fighting Hawks nabbing two of three points by prevailing in a four-round shootout (Recap). This Week: Miami returns home to take on NCHC foe Minnesota Duluth. Friday's series opener begins at 7:35 p.m. and Saturday features a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: The RedHawks' senior squad traveled west for the Anaheim Ice Synchronized Fall Classic and improved the score on both its short program and free skate as it took second in both competitions (Recap). This Week: Both the senior (Friday) and collegiate (Saturday) programs perform for the fans during intermission at the home hockey games this weekend. The RedHawks' next competition takes place at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic Dec. 1-3.
Football
Last Week: Miami defeated Akron 24-14 to move to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in MAC play (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks host Eastern Michigan this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
