RedHawks Fall to Toledo, 91-76

TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Miami University men's basketball team saw its three-game win streak come to an end on Saturday to the hot-shooting Toledo Rockets, 91-76. The RedHawks fall to 8-7 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference. The Rockets improve to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.

Miami shot 48.3 percent (29-for-60) from the field, but suffered from early foul trouble. Toledo took advantage as it finished 56.6 percent (30-for-53) from the field overall and 45.8 percent (11-for-24) from behind the arc.

The loss spoiled career-best performances for junior forwards Logan McLane and Rod Mills Jr. Both went for career-highs, as McLane finished with 25 points. He also brought in eight rebounds in 34 minutes of action. Mills scored a career-high 20 points in 29 minutes of action.

The teams traded buckets early as Mills and McLane each hit early layups. Toledo took control with a 14-2 run to take an 18-6 lead with 12:40 remaining in the half. McLane drained a three-pointer, while junior guard Abdoulaye Harouna put in a jumper, but the Rockets built their biggest lead of the period at 34-16 at the 6:22 mark.

Mills got the RedHawk offense going with a jumper a three-pointer. A dunk by freshman forward Marcus Weathers off a missed shot made it 34-23 with 4:03 left in the half. Mills scored five more points, but Toledo eventually pushed the advantage back to 14 at 42-28 going into the break.

A pair of layups from McLane and one from freshman guard Michael Weathers sparked Miami in a fast paced beginning to the second half. A layup from Mills cut the `Hawks deficit to 55-40 with 15:58 to go before the Rockets eventually pushed the advantage to 25 at 74-49 at the 11:39 mark.

A jumper by Michael Weathers and a three-pointer from redshirt sophomore guard Jake Wright began a 16-5 stretch that pulled Miami to within 14 at 79-65 with 7:35 to go. Toledo answered with another three-pointer, as the RedHawks were unable to close the gap any further allowing the Rockets to come away with a 91-76 victory.

Wright and Marcus Weathers finished with nine points each for Miami. Michael Weathers scored eight and dished out a career-high nine assists. Toledo was led by senior Jonathan Williams with 25 points.

The RedHawks remain on the road Tuesday when they travel to Ball State for a 7 p.m. tip. The contest will air live on ESPN3.
