Miami Has Strong Showing on First Day at Gladstein

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Miami University track and field team completed its first day of competition at the Gladstein Invitational on Friday.
The RedHawks' opening day at Indiana was highlighted by senior Alexus Jimson-Miller's first place finish in the 60m hurdles, where she turned in a time of 8.47. Freshman Olivia Bechtel's 57.05 netted her eighth place in the 400m dash.
The Red and White had strong showings in the long distance runs as well. Miami placed three runners in the top-25 of the 3000m. Junior Maria Scavuzzo took sixth with a 9:48.31, freshman Carly Davis placed 13th with a 10:13.96, and Maria Weisgerber grabbed 23rd with a 10:29.96.
In the one mile, junior Alesha Vovk took 10th with a time of 4:58.34. Alex Cameron, also a junior, placed 20th with a 5:10.63.
The `Hawks did well in field events, too, placing two in the top-15 in the weight throw. Sophomore Katie Walter's toss of 52-8 landed her in ninth, and senior Ashley Frahm took 12th with a 51-6.
