Hockey
Last Week: Miami (8-9-5, 4-5-3-1 NCHC) grinded out a weekend split on the road against defending national champion and seventh-ranked North Dakota. Gordie Green got things started with a goal 3:30 into the contest on Friday night, but UND scored the next three to take a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Miami's third-period magic continued as it burst out for five unanswered goals in the frame to stun the Fighting Hawks, 6-3 (RECAP). While Anthony Louis scored 44 seconds after North Dakota scored first on Saturday, that was all the offense Miami could muster as it got off a mere 15 shots on goal in an eventual 3-1 setback (RECAP). This Week: The RedHawks wrap up their four-game road swing with a trip to Omaha as they try to avenge a home sweep from November. Friday's series opener begins at 8:07 p.m.
Track & Field
Last Week: The RedHawk women resumed their indoor season with a trip to the Kentucky Invitational. Miami's throwers combined for three of the team's four top-10 finishes, led by Amelia Strickler's third-place shot put toss of 53-6. Pacing the runners was Allison Klonne who notched a seventh-place finish in the mile run at 5:00.93 (RECAP). This Week: The RedHawks head to Indiana for the Gladstein Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (8-9 overall, 1-3 MAC) dropped a pair of Mid-American Conference contests last week. The RedHawks could not overcome a hot-shooting Ball State squad as it fell, 85-74, on the road in Muncie on Tuesday. ( RECAP) Miami then dropped a back-and-forth contest to Akron, 74-70, in Millett on Saturday. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks are on the road for a pair of contests against MAC West opponents. First is a rematch against Northern Illinois on Tuesday at 8 p.m. (EST). Miami then heads
Women's Basketball
Last Week: The RedHawks (7-11, 1-4 MAC) competed in two games at home this past week, the first being a Wednesday matchup with Eastern Michigan. Kendall McCoy, Savannah Kluesner, Lauren Dickerson and Kayla Brown all scored in double figures to lead MU to a 72-61 victory, the team's first in conference play (RECAP). On Saturday, the 'Hawks took on Buffalo in what was the second meeting of the season between the two teams. A back-and-forth opening half came to close with Miami holding a one-point edge, but they were unable to hold off a strong second half effort from the Bulls as UB came out on top, 68-51 (RECAP). This Week: The RedHawks will embark on their first extended conference road trip of the season when they head to Central Michigan and Northern Illinois this week. Tip at CMU on Wednesday is set for 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest at NIU gets underway at 2 p.m. ET. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN3 and can also be heard on the Miami IMG Sports Network with a subscription.
Synchronized Skating
This Week: The junior and collegiate teams got back on the ice after over a month off at Synchro Illinois in Oak Lawn, Ill., on Saturday. The collegiate team, in its only performance of the day, earned a first-place finish in their division's free skate program, topping teams from Western Michigan and Illinois. The junior team got two opportunities on the ice, skating their short program and free skate. They did not go up against any other teams but rather skated for the best score possible. Despite a couple falls, the squad was strong overall in their performances (RECAP). This Week: The senior team will make their way back to the ice after an extended period away as well as they travel to the Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria, to represent Team USA. The competition is set to commence on Thursday and wrap-up on Saturday.
