Sedio Selected By Detroit Tigers in 2016 MLB Draft

OXFORD, Ohio - Chad Sedio, a former member of the Miami University baseball team, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 27th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Saturday (June 11) afternoon. Sedio, who just completed a four-year playing career with the Red and White, becomes the 72nd RedHawk to be drafted.
Sedio played in 170 games for Miami. Across his senior year, he hit 13 home runs and registered 30 RBI. He scored 38 runs, stole 14 bases, and finished the year with a .269 batting average. Sedio posted career highs in stolen bases, runs scored, home runs, RBI, hits (53), and doubles (8).
The Tigers' draft pick made an immediate impact on the program when he arrived on campus. Sedio hit .318 as a freshman, playing in 44 games. He recorded 20 RBI that season, and notched 10 extra-base hits. As a sophomore, he batted .289 with three home runs, 18 RBI, three doubles, and four triples. He scored 27 runs that season, and made 47 starts.
Sedio started the first 24 games of his junior season before he went down with a season-ending injury. He was hitting .330, and slugging .560 at the time of the injury.
The Medina, Ohio native becomes the third player to be drafted at Miami under head coach Danny Hayden. In his first year at the helm of the program, Seth Varner was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds, and Ryan Powers was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies.
