CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Miami University softball team earned one final split at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. Senior pitcher Amber Logemann turned in a dominant pitching performance in leading the RedHawks to a 7-0 victory over Eastern Illinois in the opener. Miami then dropped a heartbreaker to Lipscomb, 8-6, in the nightcap. The Red and White are now 5-5 on the season.

Logemann allowed only five hits in the complete game shutout win over Eastern Illinois (4-11 overall). She did not allow a runner to reach third base and struck out five.

The game started off with a bang after freshman shortstop Michaela Schlattman led off with a shot to deep centerfield. The ball bounced away after the leftfielder tried to make a play on it, allowing Schlattman to run all the way home for an inside-the-park home run. Sophomore right fielder Kaitlyn Gliha was next and was hit by a pitch. Back-to-back walks by junior catcher Lauren Anderson and senior third baseman Hailey Reed loaded the bases with one out. Sophomore designated player Kat Lee drove home Gliha on a sacrifice fly. An infield single by freshman first baseman Johniann Wahl brought home Anderson and gave Miami a 3-0 lead.

The RedHawks put the game away with three more runs in the bottom of the third. With one out, Reed doubled to right field. A single by Lee moved her to third. A double down the leftfield line by Wahl scored two more to make it 5-0. Freshman second baseman Hannah Girlie then singled up the middle to score Wahl and give the Red and White a 6-0 advantage.

Miami scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth on Gliha's first home run of the season. Reed finished the opener 3-for-3 with one run scored. Wahl was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored.

The nightcap against Lipscomb (8-6 overall) did not start out well as the Bison used five hits to score four runs in the top of the first inning to take a big early advantage.

The RedHawks did not get down on themselves as they fought right back to answer with five runs in the bottom of the first to get the lead right back. After loading the bases with no one out, Anderson hit a grounder to second. The Lipscomb second baseman tried to go home, but threw the ball away allowing two runs to score. Wahl followed with a triple that scored senior outfielder Taylor Shuey and Anderson, tying the score at four. Freshman pitcher Shannon Hohman then singled through the left side to score Wahl and give the `Hawks a 5-4 lead.

Junior pitcher Kelsey Fredericks came into the contest in the top of the second and settled the RedHawk defense down. She threw 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit.

In the bottom of the sixth, Schlattman reached on a fielding error. Shuey then hit a single to leftfield to score Schlattman and make it 6-4.

With the score 6-5 in the top of the seventh, Lipscomb was able to load the bases on Logemann. On a 3-2 pitch, Brittany Elmore hit a triple to left center to clear the bases and put the Bison on top 8-6.

Miami got a base runner on in the bottom half of the inning after Hohman doubled, but it was unable to score.

Wahl finished the nightcap 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. She had five total RBIs on the day. Hohman was 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Shuey finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
