Red and White Close Out Competition at the MAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio - The Miami University women's track and field squad took on the final day of competition at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Miami added 20 points to its team total to place ninth in the indoor meet with 28 points and Eastern Michigan repeated as team champion with 127 points.
The Red and White kicked off action in the mile run with Laura Bess taking fourth in the conference in 4:55.07. Fellow RedHawk Alesha Vovk was 13th in 5:04.74. Alexus Jimson-Miller claimed silver in the 60m hurdles with a runner-up time of 8.53.
Kathie Wollney picked up a point for the RedHawks in the 400m, running a personal best 56.03 for eighth place overall. This performance moves her to the sixth spot on the Miami all-time top-10 performers list behind former RedHawk standout Katie Scannell.
Megan Beaver and Kalliopi Kontouri joined Jimson-Miller and Wollney for the 4x400m, where they clocked in at 3:48.12 for their fastest time of the year and seventh place overall. This performance moves the squad to sixth on the Miami all-time top-10 list.
In the 3000m, Brenna Poulsen and Laura Bess took 11th and 13th by finishing in 9:57.65 and 10:00.77 respectively. Fellow RedHawk Maria Scavuzzo finished 18th in 10:25.64.
In shot put action, Arionna Darling finished fourth on a throw of 50-10. Katie Walter was ninth after she marked a personal best 46-6.75. Ashley Frahm took 14th on a throw 42-11.5. Walter's mark puts her at eighth on the all-time top-10 list behind Samatha Gable. With this mark, four current RedHawks hold marks in the all-time top-10.
The pole vault saw Hope Turner lead the RedHawks, clearing 12-1.75 for 12th place. Emily Fletchall finished the day clearing 11-7.75 for 14th place. Lauren Boyd rounded out the RedHawk effort finishing in 16th after clearing 11 feet. In the high jump, Jess Baker finished 13th on the day clearing 5-4.75.
The RedHawks will open outdoor action on April 1 with the Miami Duals.
