Stewart Has Stellar Start at Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, Cal. -- The outdoor season began with a bang for the Miami University track and field program's top distance runners at the Sanford Invitational.
Joe Stewart posted a personal-best 29:03.79 in the 10,000m in his first race of the year. Stewart's time ranks fifth in NCAA Division I this season and first in the Mid--American conference. With this performance, Stewart climbs to second on Miami's top-10 list behind reigning school record holder Brian Carlton, who posted a time of 28:57.30 in 1985. In the talented crowd of post-collegiate athletes at the Stanford Invitational, Stewart finished 11th overall and was the third collegiate student-athlete.
In her debut at 5000m on the track, Laura Bess posted a time of 16:40.95 to finish 15th in the fourth section. This mark gives Bess the fifth-fastest time in Miami history and the fastest time in the MAC.
Andrew Dusing also made his debut at 5000m, clocking in at 14:24.68 to finish 19th in the third section. His mark gives him the third fastest time in the MAC and an automatic qualification to the MAC Championships.
In the second section of the 10,000m, Zack McBride posted a time of 31:07 to finish 39th, giving him the fifth fastest time in the Mid-American Conference.
Megan Beaver made her debut at 1500m for the RedHawks, posting a time of 4:46.36 finishing 14th in the seventh section.
The rest of the Red and White track squad are competing at the Miami Duals at the George Rider Track Complex today.
