Ball State Results OSU Invitational Results- Sat.
MUNCIE, Ind. - Nine victories propel Miami University's men's swimming and diving team to a win over the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. A portion of the team also successfully completed day one of the Ohio State Invitational.
Miami Tops Ball State
In their last dual-meet of the regular season, Miami tallied another win defeating Ball state 171-127, ending the season with a 2-5 record in dual-meet competition.
The diving squad swept the both the one-meter and three-meter events with a 1-2-3 finish with senior Michael Nash leading the pack both times followed by senior Cole Fryman in second and freshman Ryan Nash in third place, respectively.
Miami had top finishes across the board in other events. Freshman Nick Potter blew the competition out of the water in the 1000-yard freestyle by finishing a full ten seconds before the second place finisher from Ball State. Potter collected a first-place finish with his time of 9:53.46.
Junior Lucas Brock collected another win in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 1:43.48. In the 100-yard backstroke, junior Jack Strauss took first with his time of 53.54. Junior Steven Russo garnered first in the 100-yard breaststroke, tallying another win for the RedHawks. Senior Christopher Dieter commanded the 500-yard freestyle competition, finishing first with his time of 4:47.97, earning first, respectively.
The RedHawks had top-two finishes in multiple events. In the 100-yard freestyle, Brock (47.46) took first followed by sophomore Ross Westrick (48.02) in a close second. Breaststroke specialist Evan Bader claimed first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.56) followed by Russo in second. Senior Sean Neri took first in the 200-yard IM (2:00.89) followed by Strauss in second.
In the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Miami took second with their collected time of 3:13.45.
Miami Finishes Day One of the OSU Invite
Meanwhile in Columbus, Ohio, a portion of the men competed against six other teams at the Ohio State Invitational. The day kicked off with preliminaries in many events. All the RedHawks in attendance made the final rounds in their respective events.
Freshman Chase Bettner finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly followed by freshman Jonathan Brooks in eigth.
Freshmen Will Pieseski Better finished 12th and 13th in the 100-yard freestyle. Brooks competed in the same event and finished 24th, respectively.
Day two of the competitions opens with preliminaries tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
