OXFORD, Ohio -- Trailing 2-0, the Miami University field hockey team used an impressive second half rally to earn a 4-3 overtime win over Indiana on Sunday. Senior midfielder Carla Romagosa scored the game winner for the RedHawks. With its fourth straight victory, Miami improves to 7-5 on the season. The Hoosiers fall to 6-6.

Despite a consistent attack from the RedHawks, Indiana was able to score the only goal of the first half. In the 23rd minute on a penalty corner, senior goalkeeper Alysa Xavier was able to make the initial save, but the rebound came to Ciara Girouard, who was able to put it in and send the Hoosiers into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Indiana made it 2-0 less than a minute into the second half. A turnover allowed the Hoosiers to bring the ball forward. Kate Barber then sent a perfect pass into the center of the circle that Maddie Latino was able to shoot in.

The deficit seemed to allow Miami to refocus, as it began to dominate possession once again. It paid off in the 40th minute when the team was awarded a penalty corner. On the corner attempt, Romagosa sent a short pass to junior back Mariona Heras who shot it in from the left side to cut IU's lead to 2-1. Sophomore midfielder Paula Portugal tied the score in the 46th minute with her 12th goal of the season. Romagosa found her inside the circle. Portugal dribbled around the defender and put in past the Hoosiers goalkeeper.

The RedHawks took their first lead of the contest off a penalty corner in the 58th minute. Heras' initial shot was saved, but freshman back Kirsten McNeil was there to score on the rebound. It remained that way until the 65th minute when Taylor Swope got the tying goal on a ball loose in the circle that sent the game into overtime.

Each team had a couple of good chances in the overtime session. Xavier had to make a pair of breakaway saves about a minute apart in the 79th minute. Finally, the RedHawks were awarded back-to-back penalty corners in the 83rd minute. On the second one, Romagosa save the ball from going out of the circle, dribbled it to the center and shot it in to give Miami a 4-3 victory.

The RedHawks held a 23-14 shot advantage against Indiana, including a 15-7 lead in second half shots. Miami held a huge 14-4 lead in penalty corner attempts. Heras led the `Hawks with seven shots, while Portugal finished with six. Xavier made seven saves in net.

Miami returns to action on Friday when it hosts Longwood in a Mid-American Conference game at 4:30 p.m.
