OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week sophomore hockey forward Conor Lemirande and entire Senior Synchronized Skating Team are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 18-24.
Lemirande had a night to remember in Miami's sweep-clinching 7-3 win at No. 7 Omaha on Saturday. After entering the contest with one career goal, Lemirande posted the RedHawks' first multi-goal game of the season with a hat trick. The sophomore forward opened the scoring late in the first period and netted two of MU's six second-period goals, including the game-winner, to move Miami into a tie for fifth-place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference standings.
This is the first time this season and in his career Lemirande has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week
Amassing a combined score of 164.49, Miami University's senior synchronized skating team finished second among a 13-team field at the Mozart Cup. The RedHawks, representing the United States as Team USA at the international event, earned the silver medal. It is the best international finish by the senior team since earning silver at the Neuchatel Trophy in 2009-10. With a clean skate in the short program, Miami earned a score of 58.10 for its program set to the song "Breath of Life." The RedHawks came back on Saturday evening to notch a score of 106.39 for their Latin-dance themed free skate program. Miami's senior team has finished among the top two in all three events it has competed in this year.
This is the second time this season and third time overall that the senior team has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. It last won it for the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, Feb. 1.
