OXFORD, Ohio -- After a quick start in the opening half, Miami was on the wrong side of a Buffalo scoring outbreak in the second frame as the RedHawks (6-12, 0-5 Mid-American Conference) fell to the Bulls (10-8, 3-2 MAC), 77-60 Tuesday night at Millett Hall. Senior guard Eric Washington led the way for the Red & White, scoring 13 points. Blake Hamilton paced the Bulls with 22 points.
Miami opened up a quick 3-0 lead when sophomore guard Dion Wade knocked down a 3-pointer in the first minute of the game. After the Bulls took a 7-5 lead, the RedHawks fired back with a 6-0 spurt fueled by triples from senior forward Brian Oddo and Washington to hand MU an 11-7 advantage at the 14:08 mark of the first half. Buffalo closed within one before a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Ali Barnes and a layup from Washington pushed the RedHawk lead to six with just over seven minutes to go, 21-15.
The Bulls took their first lead since the 14:47 mark when Jarryn Skeet knocked down a triple with just under three minutes to play in the half to give UB a 24-23 edge. Washington fired right back with a triple and a pair of free throws to hand the RedHawks a 28-24 lead. Buffalo was able to close the gap to two before the intermission as Miami carried a 32-30 lead into the half.
Washington led seven RedHawks who contributed to Miami's first-half-point total with 13 in the opening 20 minutes of action.
Buffalo went on a 7-0 run to start the second half and claimed a 37-32 lead with 17:53 to play. Another Barnes 3-pointer and back-to-back jumpers from senior guard Geovonie McKnight knotted the game with 15:51 to play, 39-39. That was as close as Miami would get as the Bulls rolled to a 17-point win.
