May 18, 2015 OXFORD, Ohio - For their performances last week track and field's junior Joe Stewart and sophomore Alexus Jimson-Miller are Miami's Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of May 11-17.
Stewart ran two fantastic races at the MAC Outdoor Championships over the weekend. The junior opened the three-day meet by winning the 10,000m, running a personal-best 29:38.30 capture his first career MAC title and move into qualifying range for next week's NCAA East Region Prelims. Two days later, Stewart was at it again when he finished runner-up in the 5000m, accounting for 18 points to Miami's team total at the meet.
This is the third time this season and in his career that Stewart has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week. He last won it for the week of Oct. 27-Nov.2.
Jimson-Miller narrowly missed clocking a personal best on the track when she finished third in the 100m hurdles at the MAC Outdoor Championships. The sophomore ran a final time of 13.71, just six-hundredths of a second off of her top time. Jimson-Miller also helped the RedHawks score as a member of the 4x400m relay team, which clocked a season-best time of 3:45.66 to take seventh at the conference meet.
This is the first time this season and in her career that Jimson-Miller has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
