RedHawks Wrap up First Day of MAC Championships

MUNCIE, Ind. --
The Miami women's track and field team competed in four events at the first day of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships on Thursday.

MU is tied for 11th in the team standings after the first day of the three-day conference meet. Akron is leading the competition with 37 points, followed by Toledo (21), Eastern Michigan (20.5), Kent State (20), Central Michigan (13), Bowling Green (12), Northern Illinois (12), Western Michigan (8), Ohio (7) and Buffalo (5.5).

Martha Szekely posted the RedHawks' top individual placing of the day after she finished 11th in the hammer throw with a toss of 171-6. The other field event to go final with a Miami presence was the pole vault, where Hope Turner took 16th with a season-best 11-8.

On the track, Anna Lamb led three Red and White runners in the 10,000m. The senior finished the race 12th with a time of 37:09.38. Another event that got underway was the heptathlon, where Tessa Brooks sits 12th with 2,423 points.

The RedHawks will resume competition on Friday. Day two starts with the next portion of the heptathlon at 11:30 a.m.
