Miami Finishes Ohio Senior Championships

OXFORD, Ohio— Miami University women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up competition in the Tim Meyers Ohio Senior Championships held at the Nixon Aquatic Center over the weekend. Miami hosted the meet involving numerous teams from around the state.
Freshman Lainey Massaro recorded the only win for the RedHawks on Friday, clocking in at 1:03.58 in the 100-yard breaststroke. She also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday, with a time of 2:19.89.
Another swimmer who had success this weekend was senior Annie Marquiss. She earned second place in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.36) and 100-yard freestyle (51.11).
Miami finished 1-2-3 in the 100-yard backstroke, with the trio of freshman Katherine Kuhl (55.36), sophomore Elise Campbell (55.44) and junior Emma Szczupakiewicz (56.34). Szczupakiewicz won the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:00.52.
Junior Shannon Ahearn finished in first place for the RedHawks with her time of 4:24.22 in the 400-yard IM. Freshman Casey Frazier placed third, touching the wall in 4:31.64. Ahearn swam a 2:04.80 for a third-place finish in the 200-yard IM. Freshman Holly Schuster finished in 2:04.29, good enough for second place.
Sophomores Logan Klinsky (1:52.27) and Stephanie LeMire (1:53.41) finished in second and third places in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively.
Junior Gabrielle Veri clocked in at 55.60 in the 100-yard butterfly, while freshman Morgan Quesnel finished in 55.97, earning them second and third places, respectively.
Coming in second place in the 200-yard butterfly was sophomore Kathleen Dodson with a time of 2:03.50.
The RedHawks also had great success with their relay teams this weekend, winning four. Marquiss, Massaro, freshman Maureen Sullivan and Veri won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:48.52. Marquiss, Veri, Massaro and freshman Katherine Kuhl won the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.56). Coming in first in the 200-yard freestyle relay was Marquiss, Veri, Kuhl and junior Sara Krueger (1:34.20). The winning 400-yard freestyle relay team consisted of Marquiss, Veri, Krueger and Klinsky, clocking in at 3:27.95.
The Zone C Diving event takes place in West Lafayette, Ind., from Thursday, March 12 to Saturday, March 14. The Women’s NCAA Championships are from Thursday, March 19 to Saturday, March 21 in Greensboro, N.C.
