DADE CITY, Fla. – The Miami University golf team defeated Ohio, 5-1, to open the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play Tournament on Monday. The RedHawks were trailing, 4-2, in their semifinal match against Toledo in the afternoon, but that match was halted due to darkness.

Senior Scott Cahill knocked off Grant Engel, while senior Luke Shaughnessy defeated Ty Herriott, both by 2&1 scores. Freshman Patrick Flavin defeated Peyton White 2 up.

The semifinal match against Toledo did not get started until late, and as a result the players only played between five and nine holes before darkness hit. Miami trailed 4-2 in the early going, but more than half of the match remains to be played.
The RedHawks will complete their match against Toledo on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Due to flight schedules out of Florida, this will be their final match of the tournament. The winner of this semifinal match, along with the winner of the Eastern Michigan vs. Ball State match will be declared co-champions.
