Golf Ties for Third at Match Play Tournament

DADE CITY, Fla. – The Miami University golf team finished in a tie for third at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play tournament on Tuesday. Picking up their delayed match against Toledo from Monday, the RedHawks dropped a 4-2 decision to conclude the event. Toledo and Eastern Michigan shared the tournament title.
Senior Brantley Kushner had the biggest victory for Miami on Tuesday, defeating Colin Joseph, 5&4. Sophomore Greg Conrad also won for the RedHawks, taking a 4&2 win over Nate Gonring.
The other results saw freshman Patrick Flavin drop a 5&3 decision to Chris Selfridge. Junior Jack Sparling lost to Stephen Watts, 5&4. Senior Luke Shaughnessy fell to Mike Lancaster, 7&6, while senior Scott Cahill dropped a 3&2 match to Otto Black.
“There were a lot of positives to take away from the week, but our play against Toledo was disappointing,” said head coach Zac Zedrick. “We made some mistakes yesterday and it put us in a position this morning there just wasn’t any room to make a mistake. We kept our lead in one match and flipped another, but it wasn’t enough to get it back.”
Miami returns to action March 1-2 when it travels to Bluffton, South Carolina for the Colleton River Collegiate.
“We have a lot of time between now and Colleton River, so we’ll take advantage of it and be ready to go next month,” said Zedrick.
