CLEVELAND, Ohio - Miami University senior swimmer Evan Bader was named the Mid-American Conference Male Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. This is the first MAC weekly award he has received this season.
Bader traveled with a portion of the team to Minneapolis, Minn. where he competed against top-notch competition from across the country, including big names like Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. Bader made the finals in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, the only swimmer to make the cut in more than one event. On the first day, Bader swam in the 100 breaststroke where he clocked a time of 1:05.67 (LC), coming in 29th place. He returned the next day to make the finals in the 200 breaststroke, finishing 30th with his time of 2:23.93 (LC).
This is the fourth MAC weekly award he has received during his career at Miami. Bader received MAC Male Swimmer of the Week for the first time back in 2013. He was named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week on two occasions as well. Earlier this calendar year, Bader received the Capital One Academic All-America honors as well as the Academic All-District 5 Men's At-Large First Team by CoSIDA. He was the first to receive the Academic All-America honors in Miami University swimming history.
In a recent release by CollegeSwimming.com, senior Christopher Dieter was named Co-Swimmer of the Week for the MAC along with Corrin Van Lanen from Ohio University.
Bader and Dieter return to action with the rest of the RedHawks when Miami hosts the 22nd annual Miami Invitational, beginning Dec. 3 in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
