RedHawks Lead After Day 1 of Miami Invite

OXFORD, Ohio— A dominating team effort in the 200-yard IM helped propel the Miami University women’s swimming and diving team in first place following Thursday night’s session of the Miami Invitational at Nixon Aquatic Center.
Miami is currently leading with a team score of 666. Emory is second with 462 points, Cincinnati is third (411), Denison is fourth (385.5) and Toledo (367), Wright State (201.5) and Urbana (80) round out the team rankings, respectively.
Sophomore Elise Campbell swam the 200-yard IM in 2:02.03 for first place, earning the RedHawks 36 points. Sophomore Stephanie LeMire earned second place for her time of 2:02.64. Junior Aubrey Kluth (2:02.80), freshman Holly Schuster (2:04.38) and freshman Casey Frazier (2:05.90) finished in third, fourth and ninth place, respectively. These five RedHawks earned a total of 146 points in the event for Miami.
Senior Stephanie Pearce clocked in at 4:52.30 for third place in the 500-yard freestyle, earning the RedHawks 29 points. Freshman Shay Spelman (4:54.13), junior Kelly Rogers (5:00.00) and senior Caitlin Fujan (5:02.10) finished in fifth, eighth and ninth, respectively. The four RedHawk swimmers earned 103 in the 500-yard freestyle.
The relay team of Elise Campbell, freshman Katie Kuhl, junior Gabby Veri and senior Annie Marquiss placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.34, earning 60 points. Junior Sara Krueger, sophomore Brittany Dudzinski, junior Michele Rielly and Fujan earned 52 points by finishing sixth (1:35.03).
Elise Campbell, LeMire, Schuster and Marquiss swam the 400-yard medley relay in 3:46.03 for third place. Dudzinski, Frazier, junior Stephanie Nemeth and Kuhl earned 50 points for the RedHawks for placing seventh (3:49.14).
Marquiss clocked in at 23.16 for second place in the 50-yard freestyle. She earned the RedHawks 30 points for her efforts.
The Miami Invitational resumes Friday morning, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. with the 400-yard IM preliminaries. The evening session kicks off later that day at 7 p.m. at the Nixon Aquatic Center. The Invitational wraps up with two sessions on Saturday.
